Quality Inspection Engineer

Purpose of the role

  • Responsible for the inspection of incoming goods including handling and processing of non-conforming parts or products, according to internal processes and procedures.
  • Ensuring the correct working operation and maintenance of quality assurance and measuring equipment, including any calibration and servicing requirements, liaising with the responsible individuals, to ensure all necessary works are carried out on schedule
  • Support on-site quality activities, problem solving, root cause analysis etc. to maintain and improve overall quality of products and processes
  • Support QMS system development

Main Duties and responsibilities

  • Inspecting incoming parts 'Goods in' and determining pass/fail
  • Recording necessary information and data as required
  • Carryout the measurement of parts, sub-assemblies and finished motors, using digital equipment (CMM, Form) as required
  • Liaising with internal and supplier contacts to discuss quality issues as necessary
  • Liaising with Stores operative to confirm parts availability and status etc.
  • Seeking opportunities for the application of continuous improvement regarding components, assemblies and processes, wherever possible
  • Supporting development, achievement and maintenance of QMS system and ISO9001 certification

Qualifications and Experience required

  • Experience in goods in inspection
  • Able to use inspection equipment accurately, eg: callipers, bore gauges, go/no-go etc.
  • Able to understand technical drawings
  • High level of attention to detail
  • Confidence to challenge and use initiative
  • Good English, Maths, communication and IT skills

Skills and Capabilities required

  • Experience operating CMM (Mitutoyo/MCOSMOS)
  • Able to understand Digital Measurement Reports 
  • Familiar with different materials and their properties, ie: aluminium, copper, steel etc.
  • Familiar with various manufacturing processes, ie: casting, forging, CNC etc.
  • Familiar with electrical insulating methods, ie: anodising, coating, protective tape etc.
  • Customer focused and adaptable to changing environments and processes

 

ADDITIONAL NOTES:

This role involves regular work in close proximity to strong magnetic fields and high-powered magnets. For safety reasons, all removable metal items (including piercings) must be removed when working in these areas.
