Lead Power Electronics Engineer


Purpose of the role:

Responsible for the conceptualisation, design and development of power electronic circuits and systems, specifically with regards to electric traction motor control. This includes the development of appropriate mathematical models and the interpretation of experimental data.

To provide technical expertise and to work closely with other engineers to develop and improve electric motor control systems.

You will have the opportunity to push the boundaries of advanced electric motor control and powertrain technologies.

Required skills and capabilities:

  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong knowledge of power electronic converters, inverters, and related components.
  • Deep understanding of semiconductor devices (IGBTs, MOSFETs, etc).
  • Knowledge of functional safety considerations.
  • Able to foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment, promoting effective communication.
  • Demonstrate a passion for innovation, keeping up with industry trends, and exploring new approaches to improve efficiency and performance. A solid understanding of the automotive industry and the specific challenges and opportunities related to electric vehicle propulsion systems is highly desirable.
  • Comfortable working with simulation and modelling tools to validate and optimise power electronics designs.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team, with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Able to learn new technologies quickly.
  • Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstratable adaptability to changing priorities, willingness to embrace new technologies and approaches, and able to thrive in a fast-paced and challenging environment.
  • High attention to detail.


Qualifications & Experience

  • Preferably a postgraduate degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Extensive experience in power electronics development, preferably in the automotive or electric vehicle industry.
  • Track record of leading technical teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in simulation and modelling tools such as Modelica, PSIM, PLECS, LTspice, etc.
  • Good understanding of PMAC motor drives and typical inverter configurations.
  • Excellent understanding of relevant industry standards and regulations.
  • Prior experience in validation of power electronics products – verification of functional requirements, performance, and durability.



  • 37.5 hrs / week, with flexible start and finish times. Early finish on a Friday !
